FAQs

What sort of frames and bikes do you make?
We’ve been lucky enough make a huge variety of frames and bicycles. It’s part of the creative joy of building bikes. That included everything from performance road bikes, gravel, mountain bikes, cargo, utility, town bikes, touring and travel bikes, to balance bikes and surprising number of tall bikes!
Do you have bikes in stock to purchase?
We sometimes have builds that are available for purchase in stock but our focus is on bespoke personalised designs and preordered batch builds.

Why do you use steel for your frames?
We make steel frames and that are generally fillet brazed or lugged. This is for a few reasons:
– steel construction has the most amount of flexibility in being able to create bespoke designs come to life and creates
– modern steels available offer an incredible balance of performance for a bicycle
– steel is repairable meaning that if the worst happens and your frame gets damaged, your investment hasn’t completely gone to waste
– steel produces a unique ride quality that is also tailorable. This is often stated, ‘steel is real’ and all that. From my personal perspective I’d ridden all available frame materials and, before I was making frames, over time I had gravitated back to riding primarily steel as they produced a forgiving, high performance ride with an aesthetic I liked. Together with the ability for. creative design, it was the perfect choice for Tomo frames.

Do you only make frames?
No, we do a bunch of other things too.
We also make forks, handlebars, stems, racks and other custom components. Check out the What we do section of the website.

How can I discuss my requirements/ideas with you?
If you have a specific ideas or requirement get as many details together as possible and get in contact through the links provided. It’s good to have a strong idea of what you want but also be prepared to be flexible where needed as there are often aspects that come out in the design process.
Once someone is committed to the process we create a design using BikeCAD and a full definition of the build. This can flex within some parameters until the build is underway.
Can you supply a full bike or some components?
We can build and supply a full bike or with some specific components, including building the wheels. Discuss these requirements as part of the bike design and quotation process.
Can you paint a frame that isn’t yours?
Yes, can can strip and paint any frame in either wet paint or arrange for powder coating. The frame will need to be in good condition. If any issues are found when stripping the frame these will be discussed with you in advance of progressing the paint process.

Do you do bike servicing?
We do service bikes. Email or call to discuss your needs and book the bike in.
